Hello! My name is Rob and I’m a multi-faith chaplain at a county hospital in California. I’m creating this space to record my reflections on hospital chaplaincy and to be an encouragement to other chaplains or those interested in providing spiritual care.
I want to be careful to protect the identities and information of those I care for; so I’m going to be very intentional about being vague about the people that I minister to.
A little about me- I was a youth pastor for some 30+ years. I worked at a few different churches in California. As soon as I hit 30 years old, I began to feel like I might be too old for the role. When I hot 50 years old, I knew that it was time for something new. I didn’t want to be a senior pastor, but I wanted to use my background to help others. Chaplaincy seemed to be the perfect for me and my gifting. I took online CPE classes from an amazing teacher, and I mentored under an amazing priest at my hospital. I started as a part time chaplain, and part time youth pastor about a year ago, and now I am a full time chaplain at my hospital.
Sometimes when I have a visit, or walk the floors, I reflect on what I just experienced and feel the need to record that thought. This is the place for those thoughts and reflections.
If you are a chaplain, or a CPE student, feel free to say hello. Feel free to share your own stories or ask a question.
Thanks for stopping by.
God is love-
